7058. (a) A specialty contractor is a contractor whose operations as such are the performance of construction work requiring special skill and whose principal contracting business involves the use of specialized building trades or crafts.
(b) A specialty contractor includes a contractor whose operations include the business of servicing or testing fire extinguishing systems.
(c) A specialty contractor includes a contractor whose operations are concerned with the installation and laying of carpets, linoleum, and resilient floor covering.
(d) A specialty contractor includes a contractor whose operations are concerned with preparing or removing roadway construction zones, lane closures, flagging, or traffic diversion on roadways, including, but not limited to, public streets, highways, or any public conveyance.
Before you can apply for your general specialty C license, you must meet the following experience requirements:
- 4 years of experience performing/supervising general building (Class B) work.
- Social Security number or ITIN
- Be at least 18 years old*
Don't have 4 years of general building experience?
A college degree can be substituted for up to three years of that experience.
In order to obtain your general building contractors license, you are required to pass the Trade examination as well as the Law & Business exam.
*Even though you can apply for a general building contractors license when you are 18 years old, it is recommended that you be at least 23 years old due to experience requirement.
